Name: Sakurazuka Kazai
Age: Early Twenties
Real Age: 226
Gender: Female
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 113LBS
Division: 3rd Division
Rank: Captain
Appearance:
Kazai stands at 5'4" and weighs around 110lbs. In other words, she is somewhat small and skinny. This leads people to believe that she is quite dainty and fragile and perhaps not much of a fighter. While the former are perhaps true, she makes up for it. Although she isn't the standard type of fighter, she is extremely quick and very agile and flexible. Her leg muscles are very developed and her upper body is tone. Because of this, her battle strategy relies on being able to avoid being hit as much as she can, as she is not capable of enduring many hits.
Kazai has long blonde hair which extends down past her hips. Her eyes are shiny and blue. She has long eye lashes and narrow brows. Kazai's skin reddish pale, Her nails are long and usually pained pink. Most of all, she takes special pride in her hair which she always keeps shiny and strong.
When in the Soul Society, Kazai wears her appropriate uniform for her rank, adhering strictly to dress code. Additionally, she wears a pair of white socks and standard sandals. When in the human world as a gigai, however, she'll wear an assortment of outfits. Surprisingly, she has no trouble adapting to the fashions of whatever nation she goes to visit.
Personality:
Kazai's personality is somewhat that of a sadist, especially for someone who seems so respectful. Toward her enemies, she enjoys inflicting pain just simply because it makes her feel superior or stronger to them. She shows this side only when she gets the chance to take part in battle. Whenever it does happen, her squad members see a side of her they never forget, which makes few of them question her again because of her ability to take charge on the battle field. She enjoys feeling as though she is in charge of her environment and surroundings and she hates having her authority question. She wishes to maintain her authority in all situations and will not allow for someone to question it.
In addition, she will always respect her authoritative figures when in the presence. She is good at following orders and will always attempt to do so. Despite this, out of the captains, she may be one of the most likely to defect for what she believes is right. Granted, she would never defect easily and she would be quite hesitant about disobeying any orders. However, she would still be willing to put her life on the line for a person or belief she holds dear, even if it may go against codes of conduct.
On the other hand she is capable of forming bonds with people and will hold those bonds closely to her own heart. She will protect those whom she cares about and will fight to defend their lives. Despite the fact that she is a sadist, her level of comradarie is much stronger than many would expect. She is kind to those whom she cares about as she wants them in her life, although she will go to great lengths to express her dominance. So long as they do not question her authority, she and her subordinates will get along splendidly.

Items:

- Soul Phone
Zanpakutou
Zanpakutou: Okaeshi
Unreleased Zanpakutou:
Unreleased, Kazai's zanpakutou appears as a standard two and a half foot katana which is usually sealed within its sheath for safe-keeping, although it changes dramatically when it makes it's transformation into shikai. The sheath itself is made of ivory and is rather strong. She is capable of using the sheath itself to block incoming blade attacks and sometimes uses it when she needs to protect herself, whilst she uses her sword to attack.
Spirit Appearance:
Okaeshi is quite skeletal in appearance with long, spinal cord-like arms and bone-like skin. Unlike many other zanpakutou, Okaeshi is genderless, and thus has no true gender. But rather than referring to her zanpakutou as an "it," Kazai refers to it as having a gender, though she is inconsistent. Sometimes she may refer to it as male, while other times she may refer to it as female. In regards to it's appearance, Okaeshi has long whitish-gray hair and stands at over 8 feet tall. In shape, it's actually very humanoid.
The world in which Okaeshi lives is very barren. It's empty and dark and completely lifeless. There are no signs of life, but there is much presence of death. The ground is cavelike and the sky is dark. On the ground, the skulls and skeletons of dead animals and humans alike are scattered. It's appearance is like that of a wasteland. The only light in this world is granted by the moon in the sky which is always full, though in times of stress or sorrow, Kazai's moon will become red whilst the rest of the world becomes only black and white.
Okaeshi worries a lot about Kazai, though it treats her more like a disciple than a partner, regardless of how much their partnership advances. Nonetheless, Okaeshi really does care about her and always attempts to help her out in times of stress. It hopes to do whatever it can to make sure Kazai is happy and her inner world stays in balance.
Release Phrase: Avenge, Okaeshi
Shikai Form:
Love Wand
After releasing her shikai, Kazai's zanpakutou will transform into a four foot long pink rod with a red beak at the top. This rod is incredibly tough, as she often uses it to block attacks. Connected to the beak at the top of the rod are a pair of wings made to symbolize her elegance. What Kazai hates most about her shikai form is that it appears more cute than many of the other shinigami, but yet it is quite dangerous t the same time.
Shikai Abilities:
Heart Return: After releasing her Zanpakutou and going into her Shikai state, Kazai has a unique ability which utilizes her new rod. After touching someone with the beak of her Zanpakutou, a tattoo which appears as a small black heart will appear wherever the beak touched that person's body. The tattoo will remain on their body until she seals her zanpakutou once again.
Once someone has been afflicted with the tattoo is when the effects will begin. Any and all pain which Kazai feels from that point on will also be felt by all those marked with the tattoo. Additionally, if she dies while in they are afflicted with the tattoo, they will die as well. If she is cut, they will also be cut and so on, however this only works with pain. Physical ailments of one do not affect the other. They only both experience the action that caused the injury. Therefore, one of them being healed does not effect the other. The only way to remove the tattoo would be to remove the body part which was afflicted. For example, if the tattoo appears on one's arm, removing the arm would end these effects. However, simply slashing off the skin where the tattoo is located does not work. Finally, Kazai does have the ability to make the heart disappear at her own will as well.
Heart Revival: Upon Kazai's upper right chest, there is a tattoo which is a red version of the black hearts she places on others. By releasing the heart, which works as a seal in this case, Kazai can completely heal her body entirely from anything other than decapitation and brain injuries. However, once Kazai releases this tattoo, her shikai will come to an end and all connections she has made with others will end as well.

History:
Long before she made her transition from a hollow all the way to the shinigami, she was a human who went by the name of Sakurazuka Kazai; a human child with a dark past. She herself was born into a small town in Japan known as the Rairyuu Village. The people of her village were hard workers, despite the fact that they were stricken with poverty. Kazai's father, Sakurazuka Taryou, was a crop farmer who worked hard to take care of his family, Kazai and her two little brothers. Her mother had died after the birth of her youngest brother, leaving Taryou to take care of the family alone. But unfortunately, no matter what he did, he could barely put food on their table and the children were close to starving.
Taryou's problem was that he did not have nearly enough room to grow crops for his family. A local gang known as the 'Kage Ookiken' demanded high taxes from anyone who lived in the Rairyuu village, which they were sure to collect with their sheer force and intimidation. The gang itself was rich and powerful with strong arms. It was their families that lived good lives while everyone else was left scavenging on the scraps left behind and working hard to support the gangs. The only ways to ascend in social class were either to join the gang, or to strike risky deals with them. Kazai's father tried the latter.
After much discussion and pleading, the Ookiken decided to give Taryou the land which he needed to take care of his family, however in return, he would have to pay them in a rather large sum for his next year of profits. Unable to predict the upcoming drought, Taryou made this deal and was very much disappointed. After exactly one year had passed, Ookiken came to collect their promised crops in profit in addition to the ridiculous taxes they already charged, however Taryou had nothing to give them. He could not even feed Kazai or her brothers. The entire family was starving.
The gang was not willing to accept this answer however, and was determined to take something of value. They insisted to have Taryou's 12 year-old daughter, Kazai, in order for him to pay his death. Instinctively, Taryou refused and challenged the gang, fighting them with his own katana. Unfortunately, the farmer could not defeat any of the gang. Kazai watched her father's decapitation before her own eyes. The gang then went on to attack both of her brothers. This was traumatizing for the young preteen.
With all of her immediate family dead, Kazai was taken to live as a slave with the Ookiken Clan and was forced to become accustomed to a life of trafficking. During these years she faced extreme pain, both emotionally and physically, although her physical health greatly increased in these years. As she was one of their cutest prostitutes, they fed her well and had her keep up her looks. She resented them for placing her under captivity, but she had no where to go. She felt trapped. There was no escape. She quickly lost hope.
Fortunately, she eventually did find that glimmer of hope to be reunited with her family. She was able to overhear some men of her gang speak the name of her youngest brother, who apparently had his own farm. While Kazai had only heard this vaguely and did not know the legitimacy of this statement, she took it to heart. She believed it, and it finally gave her the courage to run away. Now 15 years old, 3 years after the destruction of her family, she believed that her family, or at least part of it, could be reunited.
Aware of the lethal consequences of defecting from the gang, Kazai was willing to take the risk. That night, she was able to steal a katana from the gang's artillery room for her own protection. She then quickly ran from the gang trying to make her way to the farm where she had been raised. It was quite a long run, but she knew in her heart that she would be able to make it. She could feel her adrenaline pumping as she made her way through the town, knowing that even if she was the gang's most valuable girl she would be slaughtered if she was caught. She was scared of death, but this was a risk she was willing to take.
Realizing that the boss of Ookiken's katana had been stolen, the gang then went to check all of their possessions. It was then that they noticed that one of their most valuable possessions was unaccounted for. Kazai was gone. They knew that they had to use her as an example for all of the other girls in the gang. Many groups were dispatched to find her. Less than two hours after she ran away, she was seized back into gang custody without ever even making it to the farm.
After being forced to return to the gang's main headquarters, she was tied to a pole and was forced to prepare for her own public execution. Forced to watch Kazai's execution were all of the other girls in the gang, who were in essence her friends and comrades. Without being given even a chance to repent or give her own last words, she was publicly executed by a katana which pierced through her heart. This was Kazai's death, or rather, Kazai's rebirth."Am I alive?"
It was some time later when Kazai finally awoke with that new life, although it was not as expected. It wasn't long before she realized that she was different from the way she used to be. People could no longer see her. No matter what she did, she could not be seen. People did not notice her. She was a ghost, and she knew it. She was dead. In addition, she now found that there was a chain connected to her chest.
Still, she could feel such sorrow over the way she had died. She mourned and wished to have life once again. She wished only to see her little brother one more time, her brother who had somehow miraculously survived. She made her way to her father's old farm but it was to no avail. Her brother was not there. It was ridden in cobwebs. There was nothing there except for emptiness. Still, she stayed there and awaited for her long lost brother to return to her. For months she waited for him to return, but never bore any results. She began to grow angry and impatient. The reason she had become separated from her brother and her family was purely attributed to the clan that had killed her father and forced her into a life of prostitution.
In all of this, there was only one thing that she wanted, revenge. She wanted enough power to make all of those men who had destroyed her family pay. Through everything she had been through she had learned to hate men and to never trust them. They were terrible people with only a few exceptions. If allowed to live, they would only force people into a life of suppression. She wanted to grow enough power to defend the world from such men and make it a better place.
Time went by and her chain of fate began to erode. Although she wasn't aware, she had begun to undergo a painful transformation known as hollowfication. She was transforming into a hollow. Although she did not know what was happening, it didn't frighten her. Kazai did not fight against it, but allowed the energy to take over her body and completely transform her. She became a hollow."I am an avenger!"
Unlike many hollows, Kazai remembered in full detail every event of her previous life. She remembered the pain and heartache. She remembered all of the pain that men were capable of causing and became determined to put an end to it. Without discretion, Kazai, attacked the Ookiken's headquarters, devouring the souls of all the men who lived there. She would kill them all. Every male she came across would die. They were all the same in her eyes. They were the source of her pain and the reason for her death.
With this, she realized that she developed an insatiable appetite for men. She wanted to eat them. The more physically attractive they were to her, the more she lusted for their meat. Day after day she would follow these men and stalk them. She would molest them as much as she could, although after some time she would devour them in their sleep. This cycle would go on and on for years. She would feast upon attractive men who had otherwise done nothing wrong other than solicit Kazai's infatuation. She claimed that these murders were under the name of justice, but that was quite possibly far from the truth. It was with this action that she began to call herself La Viuda, or "the widower."
Nearly 50 years after she became a hollow she was confronted by a Shinigami for the very first time. The battle was long and she found herself struggling merely to fend off the attacks. She had never assumed that there would be a force out there so strong that it could match her own, but she was gravely mistaken. In her fight with this shinigami, she had only just barely survived. She found herself on the verge of death, but was just able to escape him by mysteriously opening up a portal to Hueco Mundo.
After having come so close to defeat, La Viuda wished to never be made a fool of in battle again. She would maintain her individuality and once again go back to exploiting the weaknesses of others, especially men. It wasn't long before she learned that she could drastically increase her power by devouring other hollows. While she wasn't a fan of unnecessary cannibalism, she knew that it was necessary if she was going to continue to grow the way she hoped. If she was going to survive, she feared she would have to abandon her morals and become a cold-blooded killer. She made that sacrifice.
Over the years she began to grow in rank and undergo many more metamorphosis, the first of which transformed her into a Gillian. Unlike the majority of the other Gillians who seemed to be bestial killing machines without any individuality, La Viuda was still herself. She would never allow herself to forget the pain she had gone through in her life. This separated her from the other Gillians and made her much stronger. Even when she fused her powers with other hollows, she remained in control, and remembered the life she once held."To the Top"
The evolutionary process of La Viuda as a Menos was rather rapid. Over a rather short time period she had made it to the Adjuchas rank of her species. In addition, she still retained all memories of her life, even though some of them had become rather faint. She still longed to see her brother and to return to the human world to exact her justice. She still hoped to get revenge on the shinigami, especially the one who had damaged her in their fight long ago. She decided that it was time to test her powers and to prove that she was the most powerful creature alive.
She returned to Karakura town, with the sole purpose of devouring the creatures known as Shinigami and exacting her revenge. In order to do this, she had to begin by posing a threat once again. She had to make herself somewhat known. She began to devour the souls of humans, one after another, Of course, they were no longer quenching for her. This was only to solicit some shinigami, and within due time, they would make their way to her.
After only about a week of feasting, a small squad of shinigami began their assault on her. She easily disposed of the majority of the squad, however one seemed more persistent than the rest. No matter what she did, he would not go down. This shinigami was none other than her long lost brother. They exchanged words, and despite how they had changed over the years, the two still recognized each other and felt the strong bond they had once before.
Tainted by her hollow mind setting, she was determined not to stop growing in power, even if it meant destroying the person she loved once in her human life, she would be willing to make that sacrifice. A battle would then ensue between Kazai and the last survivor of the shinigami squad sent to kill her. As their battle went on, it soon became obvious that she was much stronger than he was, but no matter what, he refused to give up. He wanted to purify his sister's soul at any cost. He would not give up under any circumstances. Blow after blow, he was beaten to a bloody pulp, but he endured with resilience. In the end, it came down to one final blow in which he was able to decapitate his sister and purify her soul. After the battle however, he died."Where am I?
Some time later, Kazai awoke in District 80 of Rukongai. Of course, this was known to be one of the hardest and most dangerous places within the soul society, but she found it quite easy to deal with. Miraculously, even after all that she had been through, she remembered her life as both a humani and a hollow. She had simply been through so much that dealing with even a hardscrabble place such as District 80 was quite simple for her. The people of the District were quite afraid to mess with her, and with very good reason. She would kill anyone who even came close to messing with her. Living in District 80 would not have posed a problem with her if it weren't for one simple fact. She wanted to find out what happened to her brother whom she had lost track of long ago. But unfortunately, she remembered nothing of her fight with him, however, in her dreams she would have strange visions of him fighting as a shinigami although she could not put these together into a coherent memory.
Finding her brother was no easy task. Being in District 80, getting to the Soul Society was more than hard enough for her, but she was willing to go through anything to find him. With the images of him as a shinigami running through her mind, and that being the only lead she had, she would follow that in her search for him. Kazai made her way on the long journey through the districts hoping to take the entrance exam at the Shinou Academy. But on her way there, she met one of the most intriguing people she had ever seen in her life. In the 68th district, a young boy with the same eyes as her brother approached her. He seemed desperate and he was really beat up. He didn't even know his own name.
She named him after her brother, Sakurazuka Shuji, and decided to bring him along with her. The journey was long, and she ended up doing quite a bit of fighting on the way, but after some time, she finally made her way to the academy. Together, she and Shujiwent were both accepted in the academy. It was impressive that Shuji made it in despite his age, but he was able to due to his unique reiatsu levels. The two of them graduated quickly and made their way into the 6th division of the Soul Society.
She remained there for some time and had unusual speed of growth for a shinigami. She moved her way up through the ranks with Shuji always one step behind her. After the retirement of the Captain of the 3rd division, Kazai was broached to take her place, which she gladly did. After getting all of the captains to almost unanimously decide her for the role, she took up the position and has since been captain, with Shuji as her Lieutenant.
