Riku stands at about 5'11" tall which is about average per say. He has a somewhat thin build and adorns interesting green eyes as well as unique blonde hair. His bangs cascade down the sides of his face while his hair extends down to about his neck in spiky strands. Riku carries himself with pride and dignity where he walks and is not afraid to show it either.

As with his heritage, Riku wears a few more accessories over the typical Shinigami uniform. He is seen typically with a few family ornaments, most specifically the family ceremonial coat which appears in blue trimmed in gold with a red lining. Other than this, he wears the typical Hakama pants as well as black Kisode top. A white obi completes the ensemble which holds his Zanpakutou.

Ever since his birth in Soul Society, Riku was brought up to be the role model for generations to follow after he would take the leadership of his clan. He could get whatever he wanted as a child as long as he sat there, spoke to no one, and did what his parents had told him. Because of this, Riku has a somewhat withdrawn personality and has trouble sometimes talking with other people. He becomes slightly uncomfortable when someone treats him kindly as he wasn't used to such treatment as a child. His parents hardly ever showed affection for him other than by giving him what he wanted.

Trinkets and toys could only go so far. Riku speaks rarely to family, only ever opening his mouth about business within the clan. The only time the young Shinigami is seen actively social is when he was sent to the Shinigami Academy as the first of the clan to become a Shinigami. Riku's parents believed it would be a perfect role for their son to fulfill. Of course, his parents were his controlling force all his life.

Being brought up in the Otonashi clan, Riku is very decisive at decision making and can appear to be as calm as ever even if the reality is that he's shaking on the inside. His feelings are rarely brought out into the open as clan politics forbid such weakness. Riku found himself wandering the night and sometimes crying down at the reflection pool by himself. Life was hard for the young boy who needed to live up to so many high standards.

ZANPAKUTO;

KONGOUSEKI HOKORI [DIAMOND DUST]
While sealed, Kongouseki Hokori appears as a normal katana with the exception of a shimmering white blade that glistens in light. The silver hilt itself appears as a star with four dangling icicle like ornaments from each of the four points. The blade reaches about three feet in length.

• Zanpakuto Spirit: The spirit that lies within Kongouseki Hokori appears as an aquatic wyvern. It's body shimmers with sparkles of dust as icy scales protrude from it's body. The creature itself is about twenty feet in height, however has a rather slender body and form.
  
  The world itself appears encircled with a swirling vortex of water and ice, as if one was in an eternal whirlpool. The ground itself is covered in ice, however the laws of the physical realm are cast aside, allowing one to traverse as easily on ice as they would on normal ground. Large icicles jut from the ground, covered the landscape in an artistic and geometrical fashion.
  
  
• Shikai Phrase: "Shatter, Kongouseki Hokori"
  
  
• Shikai Appearence: When released, Kongouseki Hokori's blade changes to an icy blue sheen. The blade's aura glows an icy blue. At any time Riku speaks 'Shatter', the blade can literally break apart into ice fragments that he can command at his will. These fragments can be used to assault an opponent or defend himself from attacks. The fragments may reassemble themselves into a blade at any time he wishes.
  
  
• Shikai Abilities:
  
  Glacial Presence - When Kongouseki Hokori is released, it exudes a constant icy aura that effects the weather in the immediate vicinity. Rain would turn to snow. A hot humidity would turn into a soothing fog.
  
  Maelstrom - The most unique ability about Kongouseki Hokori is the maelstrom ability. The blade itself can meld from solid to an icy barrage of shards flawlessly. Kongouseki Hokori is also able to harness any moisture from nearby, whether it is the moisture in the air to a nearby lake. Harnessing this moisture, it can create hundreds to a thousand small icy shards that glitter like diamond dust in the air in company with the shards already created from Kongouseki Hokori's blade. This blades are razor sharp and can slice, lacerate, and maim someone's body at will.

WHAT ABOUT THE PAST?;

Riku was born to the Otonashi Clan in the third district of the Rukongai. The house hold was strict, unforgiving, and one of the lesser noble families in Soul Society. While still respected, the Otonashi clan was revered in their own district of the Rukongai. While being brought up, Riku was instilled with discipline, obedience, and clan politics. Riku didn't get to have the childhood fun that many other children may get to experience. His day of fun if he ever had it was being given the privilege to participate in a clan summit meeting. Even then, the boy would hardly speak out for fear that his parents would feel what he said was a disgrace to them.

Riku wasn't very happy as a child, even though he could get whatever he wanted. This came at the price of simply sitting there silently, behaving, and doing what his parents told him to do, which was usually one of the aforementioned. Unable to voice his own opinion, he was soon sent to the Shinigami Academy to become an example for future generations. Riku was slightly relieved at this decision by his parents, and finally was able to branch out into the world a bit more.

While at the academy, he found it hard to talk with others due to his somewhat quiet nature. Many labeled him as mysterious and another stuck up noble. Some were nice to him. None the less, he was an ideal student, and passed his exams with relative ease. With his skill in the Academy, Riku was easily up for promotion to a seated officer. Years of honing his own skills by himself proved himself worthy of his own Zanpakutou, learning it's name. With this in hand, Riku climbed the ranks and became Lieutenant for his Tenth Division which he had been placed into right after exiting the Academy.
