NAME; Okotte, Kenkyu
NAME MEANING; lit. Mad Researcher
ALIAS NAMES; Hakamori (Grave-Keeper)
AGE; Eight-Hundred Fifty-Six
GENDER; Male
RACE; Shinigami
RANK; Captain, bro.
POWER CLASS; S-Class
HOW DO YOU LOOK?;
- Height: 7'5 (6'2)
- Weight: 500+ lbs (168 lbs)
- Ever Present Smile
- Golden, slitted eyes
- Hat decorations change frequently
Kenkyu is what some would call exceedingly ugly. Actually, most would call him exceedingly ugly. He is quite large, standing at a large 7'5". Not only that, he is quite large in the guy, looking very fat. Even with his large gut, the rest of his body seems to hold no trace of fat, all of it looking quite thin.
He is completely bald, his head barring not even a semblance of hair. His ears are long and sharp, like an elf's ears. Kenkyu's eyes are slim, and the irises of them are a bright golden color. His pupils are slitted, looking like that of a lizard.
On his head he wears a large black top-hat. This hat is often decorated with flowers of all sorts wrapped around it. These decorations change often, and people have said they have never seen him use the same decoration twice. Over his eyes he wears of pair of circular glasses, tinted gold. These glasses completely cover his eyes, and often shine ominously.
He wears a Captain's haori over his shinigami uniform, but it is slightly modified. The collar seems to be outlines in a fluffy pink trim. Instead of an obi to hold the haori to his body, there are three large buttons, starting at his neck and ending about the middle of him stomach. His shinigami uniform is not modified in any way.
A little known fact about Kenkyu is that this appearance is not his true one. It is in fact a specially made biological suit, developed by him and only perfected around four-hundred years ago. It is more of a cryo chamber than a body, stopping the normal aging process most shinigami go through, causing Kenkyu, when he actually shows his true form, to look in about his early thirties.
He sports mid length brown hair, reaching only about his chin. He has an average sized mouth, with average sized teeth, and doesn't smile as much as his 'suit'. His eyes are the same shape and color, and his clothes do not change when he is outside the suit. He still wears the same top hat, same haori, and same shinigami outfit.
HOW DO YOU FEEL?;
PERSONALITY;
- Calm
- 'Evil' (Sees the world in shades of grey)
- Not much care for life
- Hates hollows
Kenkyu is an...odd individual, to say the least. In fact, he is probably one of the oddest captains in terms in personality, mainly due to his radically different thought patterns than the other captains. Thought patterns that some have deemed too...inhumane to let him continue his captaincy.
Kenkyu is what some would call...evil. His experiments and his lack of compassion and appreciation for life often put him at odds with others. Kenkyu wouldn't worry about sending a few to their deaths if it meant that many more would be saved...Or if much information would be gained from such a waste of life.
He is not in fact evil though. At least not by his own standards. Truthfully, he believes there is no such thing as good and evil. He sees the world in shades of gray. While one action may seem horrible to another, it could possibly be for good of many others. On the other side, an action may seem great and heroic, but may in fact have very bad after affects. This thinking of his is not based on speculation. He is a man of science, and is in fact very old. He has seen many things, and their effects.
So, he believes all actions should be based on the principal of "Do what YOU believe is right. Don't do something on the perceived notion that something is good or evil. It will only get you killed in the end." He will say this to anyone who speaks of good and evil, whether they be a lowly shinigami or the Captain-Commander himself.
Kenkyu is not afraid to voice his opinions. If he dislikes someone, he will not be afraid to let them know. Not only that, he will also give them very detailed descriptions of why he dislikes them. If he hates someone because they are too cheery, he will tell them, though it will probably turn into an half hour lecture on exactly why that is so.
While it may seem...different, Kenkyu is a very loyal person. Everything he does is in fact done with the intention of bettering his home, or saving lives. His methods may seem harsh and evil, but he does it simply because he thinks it is right. He may experiment on people, but he doesn't kidnap people or force them to become experiments. He has a surprising number of volunteers, mainly because a lot of them come out as better shinigami, and if not, they most likely won't die. Kenkyu is not one to force so much experimentation on a shinigami so they would die. At least not without reason.
He is not afraid to do horrid experimentation on other species, though, even if they are or were allies. He has no qualms dissecting an allied human just to see what makes them tick. This goes for hollows, arrancar, and quincy, as well. If captured and experiment on by Kenkyu, these races will more than likely not survive. In fact, it is a guarantee they will not.
One think Kenkyu dislikes if fighting. He was never geared towards being a fighter. Since the day he was born, his only passion had been science. When it comes to fighting, he would much rather allow others to do it, only coming by to pick up some pieces to experiment on. The only times he would get his hands dirty is either when he believes there is a really serious threat, or if he thinks a sample would best be taken while the specimen was living. These don't often happen, meaning he doesn't often fight.
SHOW ME YO' MOVES;
EQUIPMENT;
KIDO;
- Capable of using most Kido spells up to 70.
Shunpo Expert: Even with his large size in his suit, he's had hundreds of years to improve this skill.
Immense Pressure: Due to his long life, he has amassed quite an amount of spiritual pressure, which he isn't afraid to use.
Immense Intellect: Often stated to be one of the most brilliant beings ever to exist. Able to formulate plans quickly, which makes up for most of his shortcomings during battle. He is also the one to have developed most of the technological devices used by shinigami today. (This is one of the things that earns him his S-Class rank.)
ZANPAKUTO;
BOCHI Bochi, in it's sealed form, is a thin, long blade. The handle is brown, thought is appears to be the handle of an umbrella. The sheath of Bochi is odd. Instead of simply being a regular scabbard, it is an umbrella. Instead of having Bochi strapped to his side, Kenkyu prefers to use it like a cane.
- Zanpakuto Spirit:
Bochi, the spirit, is a small and frail looking skeleton, clothed only in a small brown cloak. The skull of Bochi is more demonic looking than a normal skull, all the teeth being sharp and two small horns protruding from it's forehead.
Bochi's inner world is a weary looking place, covered in mist to were you can only see a few feet in front of you. The ground is a black soil with patches of dead grass here and there. Out of this soil sticks numerous gravestones, seemingly placed at random. Some residing right next to each other, and some placed far away from others.
- Shikai Phrase:
Bury them in their graves, Bochi.
- Shikai Appearance: When Bochi is released, it takes the form of a...coffin? Yes, a coffin. The coffin is small, appearing to have been made for a child around the age of ten or so. An odd thing is that the coffin is connect to what appears to be a broadsword handle with a large guard. The oddest thing about the coffin is that blades stick out from the sides, which is what Kenkyu uses in a melee brawl.
- Shikai Abilities:
Kōkyōkyoku Bochi (Graveyard Symphony): A passive ability, the coffin constantly lets loose a sound reminiscent to strong wind blowing. If someone was to get too close to the coffing though, it becomes more a scream. Or screams, would be more accurate. It sounds as if thousands of voices are all screaming in agony. Needless to say, it can be quite distracting, or even intimidating.
No Te no Haka (Hands of the Grave): The main ability of his shikai, the coffin will open, and many arms will come from the coffin. The hands appear to be bone, but from the wrist down they are covered by a brown cloth. These hands can extend for many feet, and when they grab something it is very hard to escape from their grip with mere strength. They can even tear a person apart. They move pretty fast, but it is hard for them to change direction, making it simple to dodge. Also, the hands themselves are very weak against zanpakuto, meaning that any zapakuto hit or ability destroys them with ease. Also, the stronger an opponent, the easier the hands are to destroy and break away from.
Sanka Bochi (Join the Graveyard): An ability not often used by Kenkyu since it is actually very dangerous to his health (since he is actually drawing foreign matter into his brain, he has a chance to fall into a coma after the ability is complete), but it is a very strong ability. Instead of using the hands to tear his opponent apart, which can potentially be broken out of, he instead uses the hands to drag his opponent into the coffin. While the coffin is quite small, it seems that things much large than itself can fit into it. He then closes the coffin, and dismisses his shikai. Depending on a persons soul aura, the pull into the coffin is either weaker or stronger. A captain level opponent would be able to break out of the hands much easier than say a tenth seated member. When using this ability, Kenkyu must concentrate very hard, and if his concentration is broken the hands will actually let his opponent go. Also, since the hands are actually retreating back to their realm, they are weaker, and therefore able to more easily be broken out of. The one last drawback is that Kenkyu cannot move while using this, or again the hands will let go.
The trapped person cannot get out, since they are now literally trapped in Bochi's inner world, and will quickly become another gravestone with their name engraved on it. Some would think Kenkyu's zanpakuto would potentially disrupt the flow, as a quincy's bow does, but the person trapped in his inner world actually becomes a part of the flow once again when they have become a gravestone. The gravestone itself is basically a trophy, showcasing those he has defeated using this method.
Bankai
- Release Phrase: Release the spirits from their graves and have them do my bidding, Shiroihone Bochi. Bankai.
- Bankai Appearence: When Kenkyu says his bankai release phrase, the coffin on his handle breaks from his handle, and levitates into the air. The coffin then seems to divide, becoming at least twenty. The final touch is that gravestones seem to appear from the air, levitating over every coffin. These coffins and gravestones constantly float behind Kenkyu, ten on each side.
Due to the power released from Kenkyu when he releases his bankai, it actually tears his suit apart, leaving him in his identical outfit, but in his more normal looking form. Because of this, Kenkyu doesn't often release bankai, not wanting to go through the trouble of remaking his suit.
- Bankai Abilities:
He has the same abilities as shikai, but more pronounced. His Graveyard Symphony is much louder, and instead of sounding like a howling wind when you are at a distance, it now sounds like the screams you would hear when you got close to him in shikai. His Join the Graveyard is the only ability not enhanced by this state, and he can still only drag one person into a coffin. If he does it in this state, there is less chance of danger to himself, but he will still be out of the fight.
Bari Sakuhin De (Bury in Pieces): An ability similar to Join the Graveyard, instead of dragging a live person into the coffins, the coffins will all attempt to tear a person apart with their many hands. After a hand is able to tear a piece from someone, they retreat into the coffin. There is almost no way to get the appendage back, since it is now back in the flow, meaning if a piece of someone is ripped off this way, there is very little chance of being able to heal it soon after it was inflicted (2-3 post)
No Shimo Be-Tachi no Haka (Servants of the Grave): When used, a tall and skinny skeleton clothed in a brown cloth with emerge from each coffin. Each skeleton has a different type of sword. The skeletons by themselves are weak, but they all have flawless teamwork, able to attack and defend in tandem. This makes them very hard for one opponent to defeat them. Even if they are defeated, Kenkyu can summon more, however, all twenty skeletons must be defeated before he can summon any more. He can never summon more than twenty, or less. While these servants are out, Kenkyu can use no other abilities, lest he loses control of the skeletons.
Shiroihone Bochi no Shitsuryo Kokkaku-Juu (Mass Skeletal Beast of the White Bones Graveyard): Kenkyu's ultimate bankai ability. Each of the twenty gravestones seemingly disintegrate into ashes, before coming together as a larger gravestone in front of Kenkyu and the coffins. After this, each of the twenty coffins open, revealing their mass of twisting skeletal arms. These arms fly from the coffins, surrounding the gravestone in a twirling mass of white and brown. When it is finished, there stands a huge skeletal monster. It is at least thirty feet tall, and is covered in a brown cloth robe. It's hands seem to be made from the many hands, twisted around each other to form something reminiscent to a skeleton hand. This goes for the skull as well, though it seems to be made from many skulls, forming the crude shape of a skull with horns. It wields a giant scythe, the only part of it that doesn't seem crudely fashioned from other parts.
This monster is very durable, able to take higher level kido with a shrug. It is also faster that it's size belies. It has often been called a juggernaut. The only problem with this ability is that it drains Kenkyu quickly, and he isn't able to hold this technique for long. Also, the longer it is out, the harder it becomes to control. Also, he cannot use other abilities while this monster is summoned, since there is a high chance he will lose control of it. (After 3-4 post, he will start to lose control of this monster, and he by six the monster has to retreat into the coffins, and can't be summoned again for the duration of the battle.)
WHAT ABOUT THE PAST?;
Okotte Kenkyu was born eight-hundred fifty-six years ago in Japan during it's Heian period. He was born in the country side to a poor farmer and his wife, and he only had two siblings. Both his siblings died when he was only a baby, so truly he grew up an only child. His parents were very loving, but Kenkyu always wanted more. He had a thirst for knowledge that his simple family couldn't quench. Soon he left to travel the world, learning anything he could.
During his travels, he learned many different sciences, all of which were in their infancy at that point in history. He even started some different forms of science, which became very popular later in history. By the age of twenty, Kenkyu was arguably one of the smartest men in Japan, if not the world. This would all be ruined by an incident that he himself was not involved in.
He was traveling between cities when he was caught in a fight between two rival merchants. Both had a large amount of bodyguards, and the dispute had turned bloody. Kenkyu himself tried to avoid the confrontation, but in his attempt to move around the fight, he caught a straight arrow to the heart. He died instantly.
He woke to find himself standing over his body with a chain attached to his chest. Apparently he refused to move on since there was still so much to discover in the world. Luckily for him, a shinigami soon appeared and allowed him to move on.
He was set into the Thirtieth District of the North Rukongai. Not exactly a bad place, but not a good one either. He was fascinated by all the new things, not even knowing that such things existed. This fascination led him to higher districts, where he heard these 'shinigami' frequented.
He soon got noticed by the shinigami. That often happens when you have large stores of reiatsu and ask a lot of question. They offered to let him join the Shinigami Academy, with which he gladly accepted. What better way to study these creatures than to become one?
His life through the Academy was a difficult one. He wasn't one to make friends with his direct attitude, and often preferred to stay by himself to study and conduct experiments. This furthered the other shinigami-to-be's dislike of him, as he often conducted horrible experiments on lowly creatures, trying to figure out how they ticked. He didn't care, and would often let them know so with as many words as possible.
He finished the Academy with at least above average grades in every area of skill, but was off the charts for the intelligence test. This, combined with his like of science, insured him a seated position in the 12th Division.
He took to the Shinigami life like a fish does to dry land. He wasn't one to patrol or go on missions, which was what one was often required to do when they started in any division. The Captain almost considered demoting him, until he saw Kenkyu's aptitude with experimenting.
The Captain took Kenkyu under his wing, teaching him all the things he knew of science. Now this is what Kenkyu had joined for. Knowledge, the only thing that could quench his search. By this point, the only reason he lived...second-lived.
After this point, he stuck by his Captain, learning everything he knew, and not socializing with very many people outside of the 12th. One thing his Captain instilled in him was loyalty to the Seireitei. Another thing was to always do what he wanted, not what others wanted, which was often based on others ideals of a right and wrong. Sometimes to save the body, a limb must be given. Sometimes, the body had to be burned for something new to grow. All things his Captain believed in.
By the time he was three-hundred, Kenkyu was the Vice-Captain of the 12th, and had already unlocked his bankai. While far from mastering it, his Captain had no doubt that Kenkyu would soon surpass him in both strength and knowledge. Unluckily, his Captain would not live to see this day.
The Captain was killed by a hollow. A very strong hollow. Kenkyu was heart-broken. His Captain had been like a father to him, teaching him everything he knew. Taking him under his wing and nurturing him. From this day forward, Kenkyu had a strong dislike towards the hollow race, and would often perform horrid experiments on them.
Kenkyu was given a Captain Proficiency Test, and passed to become the Captain of 12th Division. It was about this time he started development of his bio-suit. A suit that would not only help protect him in battle and during experiments, but one that would also stall the aging process. Kenkyu had no problems growing old, though, he merely wanted to see if he could slow the already amazingly slow aging process of the Shinigami.
After about a hundred years of being Captain, and about fifty years after he mastered his bankai, Kenkyu finished his suit. He was quite delighted he had managed to make something as delightfully complicated as it, but was very disappointed to find out it could not withstand his power in bankai, and would tear apart. Thankfully, due to his intelligence, Kenkyu was able to easily rebuild the suit within a couple of months.
Even if he could remake the suit easily, it was still a frustrating process, and was not one he would like to perform often. So he decided to use his bankai as sparingly as possible. He also decided to experiment and see how long his suit could run with him in it. He hasn't had reason to release his bankai in over four-hundred years, and his suit has yet to show signs of collapse.
Due to his constant experimenting, Kenkyu never got to know his fellow captains very often. He would see them change occasionally, due to any number of circumstances, and decided it was best he didn't get to know them anyway. Why get to know someone who would likely be replaced, which would waste all the time you spent getting to know them, when that same time could be used experimenting? Kenkyu never saw a reason, so he kept on with his experimenting, inventing new devices for shinigami use and generally staying out of affairs that he was not needed in.
Even with his 'self-isolation', he has heard of current news, since he still keeps up to date, and knows a storm is brewing. He still works, trying to find ways to quell the storm before it destroys them. Besides, what was he if not loyal enough to get involved when he knew he needed?

Alright, your stuffs are good, except for the abilities..
First up, Sanka Bochi:
That's pretty strong since you're able to technically one-shot anyone without any limitation, except for "draining yourself".. That's not good.. and I assume the ability means it can pull just about anyone into the coffin without hassle.. That's not gonna be acceptable.. it must possess something that'll outweigh the effects, such as your RPC will die as well.. Basically, One-shot moves are not gonna be coming through easy here..
This apply more so in Bankai, able to take up to 20 people at the same time.. that's just wow.. and we don't know how far your hand reaches, how fast, and how strong.. if it grabs one, will it be doomsday for that character? that's just a no-no.. as that means you're killing someone automatically with one hit, and all it does is drain you..
Next up, Bari Sakuhin De:
While this is a toned down version of your shikai ability, this again presents quite some trouble to it.. First, there's no drawback to yourself. And there's no specifics, such as the speed of the hands, how powerful they are, and how many. At the same time, I'd have to say no to "there is very little chance of healing it". Its too much.. perhaps they cannot "heal it" for one or two post, but to not be able to heal it more than that, I'd say no..
Now for the rest, its simply a matter of pointing out drawbacks, such as how many turns before you lose control of your skeleton, how drained you get while its out.. Your servants of the grave too.. just add some drawback to it as like you can't use another ability while the skeletons are out, or you cannot move.. its up to you.. just put some adverse effect to yourself..
That's about what I can see right now.. I'll check once the edits are done..
